Albirex beat Tampines Rovers 2-1 in a top of the table clash this evening and made a major step towards winning the league title for the 3rd consecutive year. The victory also marks its 16th consecutive win for a perfect season so far.
Top scorer “Jumbo” Hoshino scored his 16th goal for the season in the first minute after good work from his teammates on the right wing. The Stags had chances to equalize in the first half but they hit a brick wall in the form of GK Nozawa.
5 minutes after the break, Jumbo scored his second of the evening, again from good work from the right wing by Adam Swandi and Hiroyoshi Kamata.
Tampines worked hard to get a goal back and finally found one when Jordan Webb dribbled past makeshift centreback Daiki Asaoka and left back Kenya Takahashi to set up Khairul Amri for the goal at the 88th minute. However, it was too little too late for Tampines as Albirex held firm until the final whistle.
With this win, Albirex needs 6 more points from 8 games to seal the title for the 3rd time in their history.
