White Swans Shrugged Off Early Rustiness to Record 13th Straight Win

After a 2 weeks break, the White Swans did not lose its winning momentum against Geylang International at Bedok Stadium. Bedok stadium has a bumpy pitch which does not suit the White Swans passing game and is a ground which they seldom get a result.

The White Swans did look rusty in the first half when new signing Afiq Yunos nearly scored a dream debut goal as he headed ex White Swans Fumiya Kogure’s inswinging corner towards goal, only to be thwarted by an alert Nozawa in the 17th minute.

However, 10 minutes later, Albirex took the lead through its own corner when centreback Sasahara stole in unmarked to score a header.

Geylang fought back and could have equalized when Fumiya’s freekick rocked the crossbar just before the break. Albirex went into half time with a slim 1 goal lead.

Things quickly changed in the 2nd half when captain Murofushi swept Yamanaka’s pass into the net 2 minutes after restart. The game was over in the 58th minute when Kamata nodded from close range to give Albirex its 3rd goal.

3 nil and 3 points for Albirex. 13th straight win and the White Swans continues its relentless march towards a third consecutive title.
