“Little Giant” Taku Morinaga scored 2 goals this evening to see off a valiant Hougang team, who fought hard to overcome a 1 nil disadvantage from the first leg in vain.
The 2nd leg at Jurong East was as tight as the first leg as the White Swans found it difficult to break through the Hougang’s defence. Hougang also had a few chances of their own but they did not trouble GK Nozawa.
At the 42nd minute when Hougang GK Riduan spilled Kenya Takahashi’s fierce free kick, Morinaga was quickest to react and put the rebound into the net to give the White Swans a 1 nil lead into half time.
Man of the match, Morinaga scored another goal in the 2nd half to kill off Hougang’s challenges. Aggregate 3 nil over the 2 legs and the White Swans march into the semi finals with either Tampines Rovers or Home Utd awaits.
However, top striker Jumbo Hoshino and left back Kenya Takahashi will have to miss the first leg of the semi finals as both of them pick up their 2nd yellow card in this tournament.
The semi finals will be played over 2 legs on 26 Sep and 3 Oct.
