The White Swan’s 38 game consecutive winning streak has come to a halt in a 2-2 pulsating draw with Hougang Utd this evening.
Hougang led through a penalty converted by Stanely Ng in the first half. The White Swans huffed and puffed but could not find a breakthrough in the Hougang’s defence.
The White Swans continued their dominance in the 2nd half and Adam Swandi finally found the net in the 62nd minute to the fan’s delight.
Centreback Shun Kumagai was brought forward to partner Jumbo Hoshino in the final minutes. He managed to score a goal in the 86th minute to put the White Swans into the lead.
Just as everyone thought Albirex would hang on to the victory, Hougang attacking midfielder Shafiq Ghani had different idea, and sent a curling free kick in the dying minutes beyond the reaches of GK Nozawa.
Nonetheless, it was a remarkable record for the White Swans and the Champions still have one league game left against Warriors FC next Saturday, 29 Sep, to maintain its unbeaten record for the season.
Before that, there is this not small matter of Home Utd to come in the RHB Singapore Cup Semi Finals first leg on 26 Sep next Wednesday.
