【Match Report】SPL 7th Leg "White Swans Blitz Cheetahs in 2nd Half Romp"

Team2020/11/9

The White Swans beat Hougang Cheetahs 4 nil this evening at Jurong East Stadium to consolidate its position as 2nd in the table and closed the gap to 2 points with leaders Tampines Rovers.

The White Swans had an early scare in the 10th minute when Hougang right back Nazrul Nazari beat the offside trap and squared the ball to striker Shawal Anuar. Fortunately for the White Swans, Shawal could only direct his header onto the crossbar.

The White Swans dominated possession afterwards but despite huffing and puffing for a breakthrough, the attackers usually ran into the brick wall of the Cheetahs defenders.

The first half ended goalless.

In the 55th minute, the White Swans finally got its first goal through left winger Hiroyoshi Kamata. Right Winger Fairoz Hasan laid on a good pass to right back, Kazuki Hashioka, who in turn made a teasing cross into the box. Attacking midfielder Ryoya Taniguchi missed the ball completely but it landed nicely for Kamata who had the simple task of putting into the empty net.

The Cheetahs could have equalised in the 66th minute through a corner. Centreback Zachary Anderson looping header was heading towards the net but Hashioka popped out from nowhere to head the ball off the line.

2 minutes later, defensive midfielder Kenta Kurishima found space outside the box, took one touch and hit a fearsome shot into the top right corner beyond the outstretched hand of the Cheetah's goalkeeper.

The Cheetahs visibly tired afterwards as they had a midweek assertion against Lion City Sailors while the White Swans had a rest.

Striker Tomoyuki Doi scored his 5th goal of the season in the 76th minute while Centreback Rio Sakuma tapped in left back Hanada's freekick in additional time. Final score White Swans 4 Cheetahs nil.

The win concluded the first round of games for the White Swans with 4 wins, 2 draws and a loss; 14 points and 2nd in the table.

The White Swans would travel to Our Tampines this Friday, 13 Nov to face Geylang International in the next game.
