[Match Report] Two-Goal Comeback Seals Dramatic 3-2 Victory Over Tampines

Report2026/4/5

In Round 14 of the Singapore Premier League, third-placed Albirex Niigata FC (S) welcomed second-placed BG Tampines Rovers FC at home. It was an extremely important match in the battle near the top of the table.

The match got off to a very difficult start for Albirex.

In the 4th minute, a misplaced pass in midfield allowed the visitors to win the ball, break down the left flank, and open the scoring.

Then in the 7th minute, the opposition played through midfield from the back and broke down the right side before meeting a sharp cross in the middle to double their lead. It was a tough opening, with Albirex conceding twice in the early stages.

In the 11th minute, another attack down the left created a dangerous moment, and Albirex spent much of the early period pinned back as the visitors controlled possession.

Even so, in the 17th minute, Albirex created an opportunity with a smooth move down the left and gradually began to regain their rhythm.

In the 33rd minute, a driving run from Yang Hyeonju sparked a promising attacking move, and a quick one-two in the final third created a chance for Mamat, whose shot was gathered by the opposing goalkeeper.

Then in the 36th minute, Albirex attacked down the right and, as the ball reached Katsuyuki Ishibashi inside the penalty area, contact from a defender resulted in a penalty kick. Yang Hyeonju calmly converted from the spot to pull one back.

Despite being forced into a difficult first half, Albirex pulled a goal back late on and went into the break trailing 1-2, keeping their hopes alive for the second half.

After the restart, the team stepped up their attacking intensity even further.

In the 60th minute, Yang Hyeonju reacted sharply to a mistake by the opposition in dealing with a lofted ball. He won possession and drove into the penalty area, drawing defenders before the loose ball fell to Shingo Nakano, who calmly slotted it home to bring the match level.

In the 71st minute, Albirex put together another well-worked attacking move and threatened the opposition goal again, as they continued to take control in the second half.

Then in the 85th minute, Ishibashi picked up the ball in the opposition half and unleashed a driven long-range effort that the goalkeeper could only parry away. Takumi Yokohata reacted first to the rebound and sent a cross into the middle, where Rasaq was on hand to apply the finish and complete the comeback.

In stoppage time, the visitors came close to equalising with a dangerous attack near goal, but Cho Eunsu produced a desperate clearance to preserve the lead, as the whole team held firm under pressure.

The final whistle soon followed. After falling two goals behind early on, Albirex showed great determination to fight back and claim a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory.

It was a valuable three points, earned by weathering a difficult spell, turning the momentum, and showing their quality in the second half.

Thank you very much for your passionate support all the way to the final whistle today.
