【Match Report】One Point Gained or Two Point Lost

Report2022/8/6
The White Swans failed to gain top spot tonight when they could only manage a 3-3 draw with Hougang Utd at Hougang Stadium.

Albirex took an early lead in the 12th minute when ex White Swan goalkeeper Aizil Yazid miskicked and winger Masahiro Sugita nipped in to score.

The White Swans clearly struggled on a natural grass pitch as passes went astray. Hougang dominated proceedings but could not find an equaliser in the first half.

Hougang continued their attack in the 2nd half and they finally made their numerous corners count when striker Pedro rose highest to head in the leveller in the 62nd minute.

Head Coach Yoshinaga immediately threw in star striker Tadanari Lee in an attempt to regain the lead.

However, it was Pedro again who scored the 2nd goal in a counter attack in the 73rd minute to give Hougang the advantage. 2-1 to Hougang.

The White Swans struck back immediately 3 minutes later when Lee tapped in a corner kick.

In a frantic search for the winner, Hougang winger took advantage of the space left behind by the Albirex attack to score the 3rd goal in the 85th minute. 3-2 Hougang led again.

The White Swans did not lose heart and went on the attack again. Free kick specialist Masaya Idetsu did not disappoint when he curled in a free kick in the 89th minute to make the score 3-3.

There was no time left for either team to get the winner and both teams shared the point in a topsy turvy match.

Whether Idetsu's freekick is a crucial point gained for the White Swans in the title race remains to be seen with 10 games remaining.

Albirex's next game would come in 5 days time when they host Young Lions in Jurong East Stadium on 10th Aug. Kickoff is 7:45pm.
