【Match Report】Lee to the Rescue Again

Report2022/10/3
Continuing his good form recently, ex Japan International striker, Tadanari Lee, proved to be the talisman for Albirex again as he scored the equaliser to rescue a precious point for the White Swans in a 1-1 draw with Hougang Utd at Jurong East Stadium this evening.

Lee has been decisive in recent games as he scored 2 goals in the 2-1 win against Young Lions in the last game, and provided 2 assists in a similar scoreline against Tanjong Pagar in late August.

Albirex seemed the rustier of the 2 team as the league had taken a 3-week break in the wake of the sudden passing of FAS President and International weekends. Hougang striker Pedro hit the upright in the 8th minute, but his fellow striker Andre Moritz made no mistake in the 28th minute to give the Cheetahs a deserved lead.

Set piece specialist, Masaya Idetsu, had a good opportunity to equalise for the White Swans in the 40th minute but Hougang goalkeeper, Mukundan, recently called up to the National Team, palmed away his dipping free kick.

Albirex went into half time trailing 0-1.

In the 62nd minute, Mukundan made a good save again as he thwarted Hariya Keitos's point blank header from an Idetsu's corner.

10 minutes later, the White Swans finally found the breakthrough as Lee shook off the attention of 3 Hougang defenders and shot the ball into the bottom right corner. 1-1

Lightning alert briefly stopped the exciting game in the 77th minute but the game resumed about 30 minutes later.

There were no more goals although Man-of-the-Match, Moritz smacked the crossbar in the 91st minute to give the White Swans supporters a heart in the mouth moment.

Albirex was the more disappointed of the 2 teams at the final whistle, as it was 2 points dropped in the title race. However, an hour later, loud cheers came out from the Albirex camp as title challengers, Lion City Sailors suffered a surprising 5-3 loss to Balestier Khalsa, whose match was also delayed by the lightning alert.

The White Swans will travel to Jalan Besar Stadium this coming Friday, 7 Oct, to face Lion City Sailors. A victory will see Albirex being crowned champions as they will have an unassailable 7-point lead with 2 games remaining. The highly anticipated match will kick off at 7.45pm.
