Localisation - Moving Forward to the Next Stage

Club2023/9/13

Thank you for your warm support.

We are pleased to announce that from the 2024 season, Albirex Niigata FC (S) will be shifting from a club with mainly Japanese players in the professional team to a club with mainly Singaporean players.

In line with this change, we aim to participate in AFC tournaments such as the AFC Cup, depending on our league performance.

Background

Albirex Niigata FC (S) has been participating in the Singapore Professional Football League (SPL) since 2004. Until 2017, we played with only Japanese players. In 2018, with the approval from the league, we acquired our first local players. Since then, we have been getting more local players, and we have been creating an environment for the development of youth players by launching an academy.

We have now made the decision to become a local club starting from the next season.

Club History

Six league titles in eight years

We joined the Singapore League in 2004. We achieved our first league title in 2016. And it has grown into a strong club that has won the league title six times in eight years.
Including cup competitions such as the Singapore Cup, League Cup, and Community Shield, we have achieved 18 titles in total.
*As of September 2023

Football Development

Many Japanese players who have graduated from the club have gone on to sign contracts with other clubs not only in the J-League but also in Southeast Asia and Europe. In addition, to create a route for local players to transfer to Europe, we have signed a partnership with K.M.S.K. DEINZE of the Belgian second division league in December 2022. As the first transfer, Singaporean national team player Ilhan Fandi has moved to K.M.S.K. DEINZE and he is working hard.

Furthermore, in 2023, we have inked a partnership with SOCCER SERVICES BARCELONA, S.L. (Head office: Spain) to establish a Methodology Department within the club for the first time in Singapore to strengthen the development of the club.

From Singapore to Asia and the World

The decision to localize is a dream for Albirex Niigata FC (S), which will contribute more than ever before to strengthening football in this country and spreading the name of the club throughout Asia and the world, together with the fans, partners, and other Albirex family members who have supported the club up to now. We would like to make history with you.

Chairman Daisuke Korenaga Comments

Thanks to everyone's support, this is the 20th anniversary of the club. Personally, this is my 16th season as chairman since 2008. I would like to thank everyone who has supported the club.

We challenged a lot of things in the club's history. However, I believe that this challenge of going local is completely different from previous challenges. We will face some issues, but I am really excited.

I believe that we have 3 tasks

To help the Singapore national team to become stronger.
To increase the presence of football in Singapore.
To be the top sport that connects communities.

By localization, we have to focus on these.

We will continue to contribute to Singapore football. We look forward to your support.
