【Match Report】2021 SPL MD14『Wake Up Call for White Swans』

Report2021/8/7
The White Swans suffered a rude shock when they fell to a 1-2 defeat to Tanjong Pagar Utd this evening.

From the kickoff, the Jaguars were aggressive in pressing and attacking the White Swans, giving them little time to settle on the ball. The White Swans also lost on many 1v1 duel and were slower to the second ball.

Thus, it was no surprise that Tanjong Pagar took the lead when ex White Swan, Reo Nishiguchi, swept home the ball from a right wing cross, in the 33rd minute.

Head Coach, Shigetomi, substituted the 2 Singapore players, Ong Yu En and Nicky Melvin Singh, with Kuraba Kondo and Mahiro Takahashi in a bid to win the match in the 2nd half.

However, there were too many side passes and the play from the White Swans were too predictable with wayward crosses from both flanks.

The White Swans did get an equaliser in the 81st minute when Centre Back Shuya Yamashita rose highest to head home a corner.

3 minutes later, Yamashita turned from hero to zero when he let a long ball bounce and the Jaguars substitute striker Luiz Junior reacted quickest to the ball and lobbed it over goalkeeper Koga who was stranded off his line.

The Jaguars regained the lead 1-2 and defended their goal as if their lives depended on it.

It was a well deserved victory for Tanjong Pagar Utd and left Albirex to pick up the pieces from a sorry defeat.
